Nathaniel Benjamin approaches printmaking and painting through a surrealistic lens, examining the interaction between self and other in a world mediated by technology. Raised mostly in the Midwest, the religious environment of his formative years inspired him to explore mysticism, science, and mythology. From this foundation, his artwork points out the absurdity of modern life in hopes of inspiring a sense of interconnectedness and strengthening the responsibility we feel toward ourselves and those around us. By making images that encourage the viewer to question daily experience, he proposes that we slow down and appreciate the magic of life.
He earned his BFA from the University of Nevada, Reno, and actively exhibits his work and paints murals in the Great Basin desert. He is a founding member of Laika Press, a community printmaking space operating in Reno.
